Start of construction on the new plant in Asturias

Our investment project, which will significantly increase the production of premium sole, is becoming a reality. We have begun work on a new sole breeding and fattening plant, which will be located in the Port of El Musel (Gijón), as another step in our commitment to sustainable growth. We currently have three additional plants in Portugal and Galicia. With this investment in Asturias, total production capacity will exceed the 1,500 tons currently produced.

The first phase of the project will begin with the construction of a state-of-the-art production module, where SEA EIGHT will be able to apply all its know-how, including the innovative RAS (Recirculation Aquaculture System) technology, developed entirely by our team of professionals with the aim of achieving greater sustainability and care for the marine environment. This phase will involve an investment of €12.3 million and will create around 25 jobs.

Jaime León, CEO of SEA EIGHT, states: “With this investment, we want to consolidate our leadership in the premium sole market. Our goal is to meet the high demand for sustainable, high-quality sole globally.”

The new plant in Asturias will become a global benchmark for sustainable aquaculture production on land. As part of our strategic plan, at SEA EIGHT we aim to achieve more than 3,000 tons of production over the next six years. In collaboration with the Government of the Principality of Asturias, the comprehensive plan has a planned investment of €73 million and envisages the creation of 145 new jobs in the area over the next six years.
